The TTT framework for teaching English is a widely used method that consists of three main stages: Test, Teach, and Test. The idea behind this framework is to assess the learners’ prior knowledge and needs, provide them with appropriate input and feedback, and then check their progress and understanding.
Test
In the first stage, Test, the teacher gives the learners a task or an activity that requires them to use the target language or skill. The teacher observes the learners’ performance and identifies their strengths and weaknesses. The teacher does not correct the learners at this stage, but notes down the areas that need improvement.
Teach
In the second stage, Teach, the teacher addresses the gaps and errors that were observed in the first stage. The teacher provides clear explanations, examples, and models of the target language or skill. The teacher also gives the learners opportunities to practice the language or skill through controlled or guided activities. The teacher monitors the learners’ practice and gives them corrective feedback.
Test
In the third stage, Test, the teacher gives the learners another task or activity that is similar to the one in the first stage, but with a different context or purpose. The teacher evaluates the learners’ performance and compares it with their performance in the first stage. The teacher also gives the learners positive feedback and encouragement. The teacher may also use this stage to review or recycle the language or skill in future lessons.
